The Boy Who Cried Wolf

Once, there lived a naughty shepherd boy named Jack. Everyday he got bored watching his flock of sheep on the hill. For amusing himself, he shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!

The wolf is chasing the sheep!” Hearing that, the villagers came running to help the boy and save the sheep. However, they found nothing and got angry after seeing the boy laughing.

“Hey, don’t cry ‘wolf’ when there’s no wolf boy!”, they said angrily and left. Jack just laughed at them.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf | Moral Stories in English

After a while, he got bored and cried ‘wolf!’ again, trying to fool the villagers a second time. The angry villagers again warned the boy and left. The boy continued watching the flock. After a while, he saw a real wolf and cried loudly, “Wolf! Please help! The wolf is chasing the sheep. Help!”

But unfortunately this time, no one turned up to help. By evening, the villagers wondered what happened to the boy when the boy didn’t return home.

They went up the hill. They saw Jack sitting on the hill and weeping. He asked angrily, “Why didn’t you come when I called out that there was a wolf?”. “The flock is scattered now”, he said.

An old villager approached him and said, “People don’t believe liars even when they tell the truth. Let’s go home now and we’ll look for your sheep tomorrow morning.”

Moral

Avoid lying as it breaks trust. Nobody trusts a liar, even when he is telling the truth
